Despite what some people think, everyone around here seems to know that vodka is still in style. It never hurts to have some numbers to back that up. The Publican lays some of those out for us. Mintel, a market research company, released figures saying 79 million liters of vodka was sold in 2008. That's still a far cry from the amount of soda sold, but those sales add up to around $2.8 billion. Not too shabby.
Mintel also suggest that, despite an overall decline in spirit sales between 2003 and 2008, vodka sales have risen 23%. Consumer analyst Michelle Strutton attributes this to the vodka industry's ability to stay contemporary. As long as well vodkas make palatable cocktails with cheap and easy mixers, I don't see the market share vodka enjoys falling any time soon.

Ya I read an article in the liquor store magazine that in pennsylvania vodka out sells gin 5 to 1. And that isnt even counting the flavored vodkas and seems like tons of people buy them. I know with bartending vodka is by far the most used alcohol in cocktails, nothing else is even close.

It's a rare thing for me to hear someone mention wanting Gin. Gin sucks To me. Tequila and rum, I understand. I don't like them, but I can understand people liking them. I'd rather not drink than drink Gin. But vodka kicks their asses.

I was at store today and I bought 2 bottles of gin. I have a full service bar at my house so I got bout everything. I dont like gin straight or even martini's, dont even drink it with juice. Only thing I personally use it in is long island ice teas. I didnt need any but they had 2 good sales on gin and i am a sucker for a deal. I go the wine and spirits bout once a week or every 2 weeks to see what they have on sale or mail in rebates or what not. But wow I am loaded with gin now so I gotta find something to use it in haha.

I drank taaka vodka for a few years and am 39 years old. Last Aug. I was rushed to the ER where My life changed forever I now have Pancreatits and live in constant pain and can hardly get up each day. I had a large portion of my pancreas removed and a 9 cm psuedocyst. This was from all from drinkng alchol.So think before you drink!

I get the impression that non-vodka drinkers and producers are just plain jealous that the vodka market has exploded and its vodka that is soaking up the cash, and not bourbon, scotch, etc... that is instead. Vodka, like all the other spirits have been around forever and will continue to that way. Vodka is simply coming into its own just like the others had in their day. It will cycle in and out over time, that's all.

Well, um, Taaka, there you go. Seriously. I had a friend die several months ago, a severe alcoholic. He had for years had his liver trying to shut down. The last several years, he drank the bottom of the bottom shelf of vodka. I assure you it didn't help any of his organs. Yes, not matter what you drink or how often and how much, think before you drink. Alcohol is a poison, a powerful solvent and reeks havoc on your body.
