Deep Eddy Vodka

4 StarStarStarStarStar

Deep Eddy Vodka is a 40% ABV vodka from the United States. It is filtered with Charcoal. The quality is considered to be great. The average price is around $14.96 per 750mL. Rated 4 out of 5 based on 32 reviews.

The bottle states the following:

Deep Eddy Vodka is handmade in Austin, Texas in a small distillery by a team serious about creating a great spirit. Using our experience and years of tinkering, we set out to raise the bar. Great vodka is born from attention to the smallest details. Water, filtration, and distillation are where we shine most. Deep Eddy is column-distilled in a temperature-perfect environment, which means state-of-the-art. We use the finest water in Texas, and because we use local, natural ingredients, and charcoal filter our vodka four times, nothing but smooth, clear vodka reaches the bottle. Pluse, we leave no waste behind in the process, which gets a nice tip of the hat from Mother Nature. So raise a glass of Deep Eddy and you’ll see what we’re so excited about.

Deep Eddy Vodka Review

Deep Eddy Vodka first appeared on our radar in its sweet tea incarnation. As Southerners, we were delighted with the dark and sweet tea flavor, completely unaware that there was a straight vodka version of Deep Eddy. It took way too long, but we finally got our hands on a bottle of the straight vodka.

The Shot

Deep Eddy Vodka is light in the mouth. So light, in fact, it almost floats over my tongue instead of my tongue floating in the vodka. There’s no overbearing flavor, but there is a mild sweet undertone. There is an ever so slight hint of biterness on the swallow, but the vodka goes down very smooth, making a chaser the last thing on my mind. Rather, I’m left wanting another sip. I couldn’t ask for more from a vodka.

The Mixed Drink

First I mixed Deep Eddy Vodka with Diet V8 Splash “Berry Blend” because that’s what I had in the fridge. I’ve tried a few other vodkas with this, and none of them have been really pleasing. Deep Eddy, though, blends very well. It’s easy to drink and the vodka complements the mixer. It slightly dulls the sweetness but doesn’t introduce any bitter flavors.

Next I mixed up a screwdriver. Deep Eddy didn’t disappoint. The sweet undertones of the vodka bumped up the sweetness of the orange juice, making for a nice cocktail. I wish I had some cranberry juice around because this would make a great madras.

Deep Eddy Vodka is an excellent vodka for mixing.

Opinions

It’s clear to me now that Austin is the Vodka Capitol of the US. With natives like Deep Eddy and Tito’s Handmade Vodka, it’s really hard to compete with the great vodka coming out of Texas.

I won’t deny that we at VodkaBuzz are ardent Tito’s fans, but I’m completely sold on Deep Eddy. This is tantamount to being torn between Alabama and Auburn football. I won’t pretend that I can sway your heart, but if you haven’t tried Deep Eddy Vodka, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Deep Eddy is a wonderful vodka, and you can have it in sweet tea when you fancy it. My only question: Where can I buy it in Alabama?

Tito had better be watching his back!

Rated 5 out of 5.

I live in Texas so I am partial to buying Texas vodkas which I mix with cranberry juice of lemonade. I am no connoisseur and I find most mid-priced vodkas to be perfectly good in a mixed drink . My experience with Deep Eddy’s is mixed. It tastes good but every time I drink it I end up with a headache. Even if I just have a couple of weak drinks. I have no idea why this happens. I drink Tito’s and other corn vodkas without waking with a headache so I know it’s not the corn. I don’t know why this happens, so my recommendation is, if you do not experience a headache every time you drink it, then it is a fine little vodka.

If anyone else has any idea why Deep Eddy’s should consistently cause headaches when other vodkas don’t, I would love to hear the theories.

I would give Deep Eddy’s 5 for flavor, but a 3 for my personal experience with it.

It gives me a headache as well, everytime, so I will not be buying it again. I’ll go back to buying Grey Goose or Costco’s French distilled vodka, neither have ever given me a headache.

This stuff is pretty wretched. My review is on the plain unflavored bottle. Everytime I drink it I get a headache, and no I am not corn sensitive. This is a cheap low grade vodka with fancy hip marketing. Even in a mixed drink it has a bad taste. I can drink higher end expensive vodka all night and never get a headache or feel bad in the morning. You do indeed get what you pay for. I’d rather pay twice the price for a better vodka and not feel sick.

I personally LOVE the taste. I do not rub shoulders with with those who are professional critics of liquors, so am just stating this as an opinion only. I am particular with my liquors as I tend to drink them neat, so as a sip, a shot or a mixer, this fine little Texas corn vodka has my interest! I will buy it again, thank you.

I drink a tad too much vodka. I normally stick with Luksusowa. It has a sweetness from the potatoes that I enjoy. However, I have to admit that this is an incredible vodka. I drink it in an extra dirty martini most often and it blends well with the olive juice. It is also light in taste in a bloody mary. I cannot recommend this enough. The introductory price made it taste even better.

My first and probably last bottle. Titos has been my top choice for awhile, but thought I’d try Deep Eddys because I love DE peach vodka. For some strange reason Deep Eddys gives me a headache during the 1st or 2nd drink and leaves a bitter after taste. ? Smooth, but I don’t love the taste. Again, I do love DE Peach Vodka, just a splash in white wine is wonderful! And no headache.

Buddy. I was at Walgreens in my small town buying Tito’s “homemade Vodka” and the liquor guy suggested Big Eddy’s this telling me it was made by a former partner of Titios. The gentleman then explained that he left because they were saying Tito’s was homemade but unfortunately was not. No big deal I like Tito’s still as well as Big Eddy’s. Slightly diffferent in flavor and both are very milled for mixed drinks or a shot. Happy New year thought you would like the bit of info. The night is still young to drink on. Lol

Grapefruit taste great, but comes with a hangover. I drink on vodka on a regular basis, I normally will never wake up the next day with a stomach ache. Maybe it’s too sweet. The tea flavor is too strong to have a strong drink when mixing it. Lemon flavor is great!

I don’t have much experience in drinking vodka but I gotta tell ya this Deep Eddys vodka in paticular the ruby red and lemon vodka is outstanding. I’ve only had it like the bottle suggests, little bit of club soda with a lime (ruby red) and the lemon with just club soda.
So smooth, no harsh taste or bad after taste. The price is 21.99 in alabama but 17.99 at the alabamaa state store.

I am pretty diverse in my vodka’s. I typically buy: Stolichnaya, Absolut, Kettle One, or Tito’s. However, whenever I see “Deep Eddy’s” available it is my go to Vodka. It is hard to find in the dozens of Liquor stores around Brooklyn. Having been distilled 10 times and being amazing for mixing (I typically drink Vodka and 7up/Sprite with a lemon) I must say it is really smooth and amazing for the price.

There is a Russian vodka called “Rusalka” which costs $10.99/1 liter and is extremely good. I cannot find it anywhere besides one store, not even online. Apparently it is a very small company. I will tell you if you ever see it, buy it. 8 times distilled and super smooth. Cheers!

I had a vodka intolerance since my high school days after getting smashed on screw drivers made with mc McCormick’s vodka. I had to give this vodka a try on my daughters birthday 16 years later when my closest friend juiced some of our home grown grapefruit. Deep Eddy is now in my daily drink it cured me of my vodka hate and turned it around 180, I love it. So smooth very mild heat and fantastic taste. I am looking for more things to mix it with. Preferring a good martini or vodka and grapefruit atm.

Good for mixing, and decent for its price point, but I don’t think I would buy this again. The Astringent Taste mentioned by other reviewers is extremely bothersome to me. I would rather deal with the vodka that has some blight over the astringent taste any day. Honestly, it has that “cheap flavored liquor” taste to it, but again, as another reviewer said, you get what you pay for. It’s almost impossible to find a flavored vodka or rum at this price point ($13.99 just outside New Orleans) that DOESN’T taste that way, which is why I gave it 3 stars instead of 2.

I drink my Vodka neat, over ice. Deep Eddy is very neutral on the front end, with only a slight burn at the back end. It leaves no discernible aftertaste, and does not cause next-morning Vodka breath when consumed in reasonable amounts. It is my favorite Vodka.

What I really don’t understand, however, is Deep Eddy’s marketing strategy. It was introduced at a low price point, $17.99 for a 1.75, if I recall, with a rebate of $30 for buying three bottles. This got it a lot of volume, and a good amount of shelf space and promotional activity at my favorite liquor store.

Then, all of a sudden, it was gone. The store manager said the company had drastically raised the wholesale price, meaning she would have to retail it at a minimum of $22.95 (1.75L). It lost all its shelf space almost overnight. To me, that’s still a good value, and I will continue to buy this product

But I think the worst thing any company can do in marketing is to confuse the customer about where the product is positioned, price and value-wise. If Deep Eddy wanted to position itself as a mid-range Vodka, bringing it out at a really low price point, and adding in a huge rebate, was a big mistake. The company is discovering how hard it is to move upscale, even to mid-price It’s still my favorite, and I ordered 2 cases yesterday for about $20/1.75L.

I finally noticed a bottle on a local liquor store shelf. I still have partial bottles of Luksusowa (old and new labels), Russian Standard Original, Americana Luxury Vodka, New Amsterdam, Crystal Head, and Jean Marc XO, so I decided that it was not the right time to add to my collection. However, with the rave 5 star review it was difficult to pass up, even at $19.99 per fifth. Too bad that it wasn’t available locally several months ago so that I could have taken advantage of the introductory low price and rebate promotion.

I finally indulged myself by adding Deep Eddy Vodka to my multi-bottle vodka collection, and didn’t hesitate to mix it into an extra dry martini up without any garnish. The aroma was extremely mellow, and the initial sip was very smooth. The flavor of Deep Eddy seemed assertive and on the sweeter side of bittersweet. There was no burn on the swallow, and the mild bittersweet aftertaste quickly dissipated as if I had not had any vodka in the cocktail. Deep Eddy sure seemed to have the stuff of a 5 star vodka. However, after nursing my martini for a while, I noticed something that I do not recall from any other vodka. Though there was no burn on the swallow, there was an unusual mildly astringent quality that was noticeable on the front and sides of my tongue after swallowing. After contemplating the affect of this on my enjoyment of the martini for most of the cocktail, I finally decided that it negatively impacted the experience just enough to limit my rating of Deep Eddy to 4 stars. At a moderate cost of $15.99 per fifth locally, I can do a bit better with Sobieski and Luksusowa regarding both quality and price.

Since having a Deep Eddy martini up with olives and no vermouth at a local eatery a couple of nights ago, I’ve gained more respect for the utter smoothness and light flavor of this inexpensive vodka! I did not notice the astringency that had slightly marred an otherwise great experience when I had a bottle at home last year. Perhaps the trace amounts of vermouth that I add to my homemade martinis was the source of the detraction. Regardless, I would definitely consider Deep Eddy to be a terrific bargain for a terrific vodka. Cheers!

I almost agree with your review on Deep Eddy’s. The reason I give it a 4 is because I am not a fan of the slight burn when I drink it straight. It is close to Titos but not quite there. The sweet tea on the other hand is an excellent vodka.

Have gone through a few bottles over the course of several weeks. I drink vodka often & never have hangovers but husband & I just made the connection that we were both feeling pretty awful after drinking Deep Eddy. I have a headache, stomach ache & my throat is burning each morning after drinking it ( he only had one & is throwing up ) Finally looked at the label & realized that it is distilled from corn. I avoid corn products unless organic or GMO free so If you are sensitive to corn, avoid this vodka. I bought it because it’s cheap & seemed like it would be a good boutique vodka, guess you get what you pay for. I’ll go back to my Chopin potato vodka now.
