Dripping Springs Vodka Review

Dripping Springs Texas Vodka was suggested by several readers. Since this vodka is unabashedly Texan, it’s hard not to draw comparisons to Tito’s Handmade Vodka. Dripping Springs, TX is about a half hour drive from Austin, TX. Both are made in copper stills. Both have fairly “handmade” looks. Other than the people behind it, the big difference is Tito’s is openly corn-based. Dripping Springs simply says “grain.” So, let’s take a look.

The Shot

I can put this to bed right off. Dripping Springs has an unsettling flavor. It’s unsettlingly bitter, and it doesn’t improve. The vodka has a harsh character overall, and I really just want a chaser.

The Mixed Drink

I mixed Dripping Springs Vodka with Crystal Light since that’s what I had on hand. Usually, Crystal Light is a forgiving mixture. Not so with Dripping Springs. The vodka bitters things up to the point of making the drink impossible to enjoy.

Final Thoughts

Even if I weren’t comparing Dripping Springs Texas Vodka to the venerable Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Dripping Springs doesn’t hold up well. If you want to buy American (especially Texan), try Tito’s. If not, there are still better options.

Rated 3 out of 5.

I think you got a bad bottle or something! Dripping Springs is way cleaner and smoother than Tito’s. Retaste Tito’s sometime. Now that Tito’s has gotten so huge, it doesn’t taste as good anymore. It basically tastes like Smirnoff. Dripping, on the other hand, is extremely smooth. Its almost too smooth, I drink it way too fast.

The cleanest, pure vodka I have ever tasted.

    Puts Titos to shame.

I’m not a big vodka drinker, but after buying a bottle of dripping springs I now have a new love affair with cran and vodka.. my wife who was a titos fan now is a dripping springs fan, in her opinion it was a lot smoother and not as harsh.. 5 stars from the wife and I!

My wife and I just did a blind taste test, dripping springs versus Tito‘s homemade vodka. We both agreed that dripping Springs was smoother , more palatable better tasting vodka. Give it five stars , and clearly a better value.

Best vodka for the money. Tito’s doesn’t stand up in a blind tasting. As a sommelier heavily involved with both wine and spirits I have say Drippings Springs is much better than Tito’s.

IMO this is the best vodka out. I’m by no means a vodka drinker. I think they all taste like kareosene, with the exception of this one. If you like a light tasting vodka I would highly recommend.

@Robert, too bad that your review doesn’t stand up to the hype form some forum participants. Had you given this one a second chance before posting your review or was your description based on a first impression?

The description was a first impression. I did change my rating from 2 to 3 after spending more time with it, though. I’m going to be in Austin, TX in a few weeks, so I might grab another bottle and see if my thoughts have changed.

I find Tito’s too hot. Just bought a bottle of Smithworks which is the nastiest vodka I’ve ever tried. Dripping Springs & Deep Eddy are my go to, however at the club I stick with Kettle or Goose.

I haven’t hat the Dripping Springs Vodka as of yet but have noticed that all the people compare to Titoes Vodka. What’s up with that? Compare to Kettle One and then you might look like you know Vodka and how it should taste. Kettle One is so smooth that you can drink it straight….keep it in your freezer and pour into glass with a twist of limon. Yum…..period.!

I see a lot of reviews on this post. The voda has a really bad taste and so im going to copy off the bots or reviews that write like the same person “I’m by no means a vodka drinker.” but this vodka is one of the worst I have tasted. You cannot drink it without diluting the taste with something sweet.

With all due respect, I disagree with Robert whom I assume considers himself an expert on vodkas. I am not an expert but I have tried various vodkas and shared them with friends. All agree that Dripping Springs is a “5”. If Robert has a vodka recommendation that he considers to be a “5”, I wish he would share it with me and I will do a blind taste comparison with my vodka drinking friends to see which they prefer.

Expert, probably not. Someone with a well informed opinion is probably accurate of how I consider myself. I’ve reviewed 110 vodkas over the past 4 years, and there are plenty I’ve tried that I didn’t review.

Taste is still a matter of opinion. If you like a vodka, I’m not telling you that you shouldn’t drink it. I’m just sharing my opinion, and my opinion changes over time.

If you want to see things I thought were 5s (at least at the time), they are posted on this site. They have already been shared. All you have to do is click the “Vodkas” link at the top of the page. You can filter by rating.
