Luksusowa

5 StarStarStarStarStar

Luksusowa is a 40% ABV vodka from Poland. The quality is considered to be amazing. The average price is around $13.81 per 750mL. Rated 5 out of 5 based on 33 reviews.

The bottle states the following:

Most vodkas are made from the fermented mash of grain, whereas Luksusowa vodka, meaning luxurious and pronounced LOOK-SOO-SO-VAH, is distilled from potatoes. The result is a perfectly smooth vodka. Since its creation in 1928 in Poland, Luksusowa has maintained the highest production standards (its name literally meaning the highest quality spirit). 28 international gold medals crown its quality. Its perfect balance and smoothness makes Luksusowa ideal for cocktails, such as a Classic Martini. Luksusowa – the authentic luxury Polish vodka.

Luksusowa is really making waves around VodkaBuzz. We like potato vodkas and are really encouraged by reader reviews to take a look.

The Shot

Luksusowa is a smooth vodka. It has a stout flavor to it that seems typical of potato vodkas. There’s no burn and no offensive aftertaste. This is a great vodka to drink straight.

The Mixed Drink

I mixed Luksusowa with orange juice. The vodka is almost flavorless in the screwdriver. It’s easy to drink and tastes great. You can’t go wrong with this vodka.

Luksusowa is a great vodka all around. If you like potato vodkas, you really need to try Luksusowa.

Rated 5 out of 5.

Without a doubt the best vodka I’ve ever tasted. I love the fact that this vodka is underrated. It means I can buy boatloads at only 12 dollars a 750mL. Don’t sleep on this vodka. Smooth it’s got it. Tasty it’s got it. I’m sure the name is the only thing scaring common folk away. If you don’t like this vodka after trying it I will personally give you the money back.

A lot of people like Russian Standard as their go to lower shelf brand. I have tried Luksusowa side by side with Russian Standard and I must attest to the fact that Russian has more of a “bite”. It stings the tongue in comparison. Luksusowa is definitely an excellent Vodka for the price.

Again, since there is no open thread in which to post comments about unrated vodkas, and since I have posted about “other” vodkas in the Zyr thread previously, I am going to post my review about Luksusowa here as well.

WOW! I have read a few encouraging comments about this potato vodka, but I wasn’t expecting it to be good enough to make it toward the top of my rating list. From the initial sweet aroma to the smooth and tasty finish after the swallow, Luksusowa is supreme. The flavor is quite sweet, which is especially pleasant in a martini. The nose is also sweet without the alcoholic burn. The martini cocktail that it made was very smooth and followed with nearly no burn at all. The aftertaste was mild and sweet, too. Compared to the bottle of Sobieski that I have been nursing, it is smoother, sweeter, and has noticeably less burn on the swallow. Even the after taste is more pleasant. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it may have made the best martini that I’ve made at home. Bear in mind that the martinis that I make still often do not match the quality of those made by many bartenders since I am still honing my vodka mixology skills, but this one challenged the best that I’ve had anywhere! At only $22.99 for a 1.75 liter bottle ( $9.85 per fifth), this is a terrific vodka at a great price. I can get Zyr, the excellent vodka that is the subject of this thread for about twice that price, but I am not sure that it is actually as great as Luksusowa! If you see this vodka on the liquor store shelf, buy it!

My first experience with Luksusowa goes back a few years to an early 2000’s when I brought a few bottles of this stuff into Michigan from Ontario Duty Free shops at Port Huron. As a Russian vodka connoisseur I must attest to the smoothness and refine taste of Luksusowa potato vodka. It is the finest potato distilled vodka I’ve tried to date, and I’ve tried a few, including some of the Scandinavian ones. It is in, my humble opinion, a some of the best potato distilled vodka ever created, bar none – take it straight from a Russian guy.

The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is that Luksusowa changed its branding and its logo, not the inner core though. Enjoy it chilled and out of the freezer!

I was elated to find local store carrying Luksusowa several years ago. I am a retired chef and an adamant fan of this potato vodka because of its charisma and creaminess. Gads, we (wife and I) do love this vodka, which is always present for us when enjoying caviar, cured salmon, or any smoked fish! Maybe i shouldn’t say it, but I laugh silently to myself at the pretense of higher priced vodkas that haven’t nearly appeal of this Polish gem. Without mentioning other brands (forgive me), we love to shake martinis with Luksusowa vodka, a high priced gin, and the finest imported vermouth we can get our hands on, adding a couple home stuffed, plump olives, a favourite green and a Kalamata and just 2-4 drops of olive brine (no more). My favorite stuffers are, of course, anchovy or Roquefort cheese, as they are easy to find and flavourful. At first sip, you know why you came to the bloody party even if you’re alone. Granted, martini recipes are subjective, but my fave formula goes like this: Somewhere from one half to one part vermouth (if you’re buying the finest, you’ll see why); one and a half parts Luksusowa; and 2 parts Gin. Shake with 5 cubes of ice made with a “clean” water.

I usually have martinis extra dry up with olives. I prefer high quality vodka to gin by a wide margin, but occasionally try gin instead to keep things interesting. I have tried Bombay Sapphire and Beefeater Gin, but stumbled onto Bombay Original Gin recently, which I prefer due to its more subtle juniper flavor, based on my limited experience. I might give your recipe a try, though, since it likely tones down the juniper flavor even further.

Also. I usually make my martinis extra dry, using just about a 1/3 capful of Martini and Rossi Extra Dry Vermouth. At restaurants and bars, I often just forgo the vermouth all together, since most bartenders simply use too much for my taste. Out of curiosity, which vermouth do you recommend?

I like Noilly Prat from France. I don’t prefer Dos Equis but I do prefer Seagram’s extra dry gin. I tried many, many gins and would gladly pay more if I thought they were better….but Seagram’s is my favorite. Just tried Luksusova potato vodka and love it, so now I will alternate Luksusova with Tito’s vodka. But have a sweet start and a fruity finish.

I’m of meager means. I’ve never had anything above mid-shelf. However, compared to other vodkas I’ve tasted, it’s a very pleasant affair. It’s pretty smooth, and lacks the medicinal tone of others. I mean, it’s there, but my mind isn’t thinking “Dupont!” It even has some of those pleasant notes vodka aficionados ramble about after taking their orange sunshine; it’s a bit grassy tasting, by my tongue, and rather “light” if you will. Pretty pleasant and wholly reasonable to drink straight and poorly chilled. It’s never, ever given me a hangover either, which is commendable as I’m much more sensitive than most. The packaging exudes class, the name is pretty awesome, and the taste certainly pleased friends of mine who have consumed spendier, better-recognized vodkas.
    (
One thing that may be a huge, huge con to some: I couldn’t get it to mix. Tore through Ribena. Tore through 100% cranberry juice. Tore through 100% cranberry + sugar. Tore through premium organic orange juice. It was a bitter affair and left me tasting the vodka’s notes as well as the mixer of choice. Then again, I think this is good enough, price be damned, that most won’t feel compelled to dilute with their choice of sugar water.

5 stars for its local price: 22$-25$ for 1.75l

Excellent vodka, especially for the price. As another review noted, it’s about $23 for a 1.75 liter bottle.

The vodka itself is relatively smooth, slightly warm, with no aftertaste. It doesn’t have a lot of flavour, and lacks most of the rubbing alcohol taste you’ll find in a Rokk or similar.

I’ve yet to try many mixers with it, but it works well with lemonades and the usual, and is excellent for shooting. I actually sat down with some on the rocks, and quite enjoyed the experience.

Definitely a vodka to get, much better flavour and only slightly higher price than the common names.

we can’t Zyr here in Texas but Russian Standard is plentiful and a great buy for a real Russian grain vodka of quality for $20 and under. going through an undetermined lengthy layoff made me search out the best available from $10.00 – $15.00 and so far this is a winner uncontested. I’ve read, reread, and researched and I believe I have found the best between my price criteria and perhaps better than most $20 – $25 premiums. I mix it with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, and/or the 100% Ocean Spray ruby red grapefruit juice which is actually a combination of 4 juices and a tad of carrot juice to sweeten any edge off any bitterness, then a splash of Sobe fuji apple pear life-water too enhance the whole and voila’ – one happy drink for one happy consumer. hats off because it comes down to what is in the head, heart, and trousers – a combination of substance, sustenance, and succulence.

Thanks, Robert, for adding this nice vodka to your list for discussion and review. Too bad that you haven’t gotten the opportunity to try it yet because I think that you will find it to be a nice bang for the buck. Since my review last year, I have had a couple of bottles of Luksusowa that have alternated with Sobieski as my “freezer vodka” for home made martinis. It has the smooth and creamy attributes of a fine potato vodka combined with a subtle Russian style sweetness and cooling bite on the finish. Great stuff!

Luksusowa blew me away. I was skeptical of potato vodkas for a long time, expecting a creamy-starchy feel. I was pleasantly surprised by its sheer quality. It didn’t feel thicker than any other vodka out of the freezer, had no smell and its smoothness… Wow. It’s dangerous because you forget you’re drinking vodka rather than cold water. The taste is very slightly sweet but not very distinctive-just as I like it. Almost no burn, no aftertaste, no bitterness… It’s better than Zyr, and it’s much better than Russian Standard and the all-advertising-no-quality vodkas like Belvedere, Grey Goose, Ciroc etc. while being significantly cheaper than all of them. Needless to say, it also blows other vodkas in its own price range out of the water with its quality and super-smoothness. I’m not a big cocktail drinker, but I expect it to mix very well, given its smoothness and very light taste. Excellent vodka overall, a new favorite of mine and a true steal. I’d still buy this if it cost double.

I had been drinking Golia for a while until my local store ran out and said they couldn’t get a distributor in Delaware, and I had like it very much. But, when I picked up and tried Luksusowa I was blown away by the difference and the quality. I’m not a expert vodka drinker, bourbon is more generally to my taste, but when I’m thirsty for something cold and “exotic”, I’m happy mixing vodka with a number of things from citrus juices to more complex mixtures with various bitters and liqueurs, but mostly, one ice cube and the vodka works well for me. The potato vodka exceeds all others I’ve had including some very high end bottles that my sister is fond of buying. The smoothness, in the mouth and throat, and subtlety of inherent flavors is what mostly attracts me to Luksusowa. One amusing characteristic is the price – an amazing bargain. I almost passed on it thinking that something that inexpensive had to be rot-gut, but because the price was so reasonable, even if it were awful, my investment was minimal. What a surprise! This is the best vodka I’ve ever had.

As I said in another comment, Luksusowa isn’t as good as it used to be.

But it’s still excellent as a Martini or on the rocks, where the new harshness that comes with the new label dissipates and the flavors are more apparent.

For sipping or mixing, I now recommend Monopolowa. I was loyal to Luksusowa for many years because Poland is the origin of vodka, but I’ve had to switch to Monopolowa, an Austrian potato vodka, for anything but Martinis or rocks, where it tastes too much like water due to the lesser flavor.

Well, I finally had the anticipated taste comparison between the old and the new labels of Luksusowa a couple of nights ago. There were two clear differences in them:

          1) The old version is noticeably smoother (almost Crystal Head-like), but the new one is certainly smooth enough (smoother than most other vodkas, still).

          2) The new version has a little more flavor. The flavor is the same, but just a bit more pronounced in the new one, which I feel is an improvement.

So, the bottom line is that the vodka in the new bottle is actually a little different from that in the old bottle, with both improvements and degradations to the final product. If I had it my way, I would not have changed the vodka, but I still rate the new one 5 stars.

As proof of my love for Luksusowa as my affordable “freezer” vodka (actually, I prefer to keep my vodkas on a room temperature shelf to bring out the flavors), I purchased another 1.75L bottle today to replace my nearly empty fifth of Russian Standard Original to make martinis at home. If there is nothing new that is highly recommended on the liquor store shelf to try, I gravitate toward Luksusowa every time lately. Sobieski used to be my “freezer” vodka, but Luksusowa is even better (even with the slightly modified recipe in the new bottle) at only a slightly higher price.

In my opinion, the quality of Luksusowa declined along with the label change.

My friend picked up a bottle with the old label and it is much smoother without the bite, like I remember Luksusowa.

On the other hand, the red label has a bit of a bite too it. It’s still wonderful, but sadly I’ve had to choose Monopolowa, an Austrian potato vodka, for sipping, due to its lesser bite. Note that Monopolowa, however, is terrible for rocks or Martinis because it has much less flavor than Luksusowa.

I was remaining loyal to Luksusowa because Poland is the original home of potato vodka, but sadly they have fallen a bit since gaining popularity.

HOWEVER, after the first few sips of the martini, the cocktail seemed as great as ever. Additionally, when I had some friends over a few days later, we tasted the vodka warm and straight, and it was as wonderfully smooth and flavorful as ever.

I have had this experience with Crystal Head, too, and I have been wondering if there is a corking issue that seems to lead to a rougher than expected first sip or two of these terrific vodkas. Any thoughts?
