Distilled 4 times. Activated carbon filtered. Enjoy in moderation.

Review

UV was another reader suggestion. It's been years since I'd had UV's flavored vodkas (and I wasn't terribly impressed then). I managed to get my hands on a bottle to see what it's all about.

The Shot

UV vodka gets bitter really fast. It slightly dries the mouth, and the swallow leaves me with a cringe on my face due to the bitter aftertaste and mild burn. The aftertaste sticks around strong. If you plan on drinking this straight, make sure you have a chaser.

The Mixed Drink

I mixed UV vodka with Crystal Light Strawberry Kiwi juice. This normally flavorful and enjoyable mixer is pretty well spoiled by the vodka. The bitter flavors stand out strong and make the drink a difficult task to finish. While it's much better than some of the bottom shelf vodkas I've had, it's not hitting the middle of the middle shelf in terms of quality.

Opinions

Erin had an adverse reaction to UV. She had the same mixed drink, but, after the first, she demanded a lower amount of vodka because "it just isn't good."

I think we solidly agree on this vodka. For the price it might be an acceptable substitute for Smirnoff, but it won't get you much further. I'd blow a few more dollars and move up-market a bit.

Yeah, this sounds alot like the UV I remember. So bitter, you can chase it down with other vodkas.

Yea we sell it for about $12 a 1.75L and we used to give a bottle of Bloody Mary mix with it. Definitely best used as a mixing vodka.

I saw something called Prairie Organic Vodka for $19.99. I did a little research (a.k.a. google) and found out that it was also made by Phillip's. So Phillip's, UV, and Prairie all come from the same source. I wonder how it tastes.

Prairie Organic has been on the to do list for awhile. I've gotten it twice but we drink it all before I get a chance to review. It's a lot better than UV.

I kinda liked Prairie Organic. I thought it was arguably better than Sobieski, but at nearly double the cost, it loses. For the money, I think Tito's beats Prairie O.

    This shit sucks!

I normally drink Finlandia - which is the best in the worst. I really wanted to get drunk today and sincew this was 4 dollars cheaper, had a nice nicer (premium) bottle design, I figured it would be okay. I got this shit home and after the first shot, I knew this would be kind of stuff you dread taking another shot of rather, rather than accepting joyiously.

Basically, I had the cvhoise of choosiung this of Svenka, which was about 2 dollars more, despite the fact I am really broke and this was a one-opff shot at the Vodka.

I've been really addicted to caffeine lately adn this crap. even after a shot of heavily sugared expresso (like a "cow pop") tasted really nasty.

Avoid this crap and get the cheap shit and water it down with Cranb erry or wove up a pet to the better stuff.

    Results: 2/5 - AWFUL

I think you may be under-rating this one a little bit. I find it very similar to Sobieski. Not as smooth going down in back, but the front has that pleasant sugar that sits at the front of the tongue and the frontal bitterness is not quite as long-lasting.

UV is nasty. Even Popov tastes better. If you can actually afford a good vodka, buy Smirnoff or step it up and drink Ketel One.

It's from Philips... is UV better than the just plain ol' Philips vodka? Because that stuff made me vomit immediately after one shot.

I've never had Phillips, so I can't make a direct comparison. It's far from being the worst vodka I've ever had, if that helps. It isn't great, though, and I can think of a great number of vodkas I'd pick first.

Although it is a girly drink, I would recommend the flavored UV's. The UV Blue Raspberry tends to be a favorite- tastes like a jolly rancher. And if mixed with lemonade of some sort it is very good.

Just tried UV vodka (unflavoured on the rocks). Incredibly bad. Tastes like some sort of industrial chemical. If I am still alive tomorrow, I will take it to the toxic waste collection site in our town...if they will accept it.

It's probably too late for me...but save yourself...drink Russian Standard...Sobieski...hell...even Popov...anything but this.

Should've known to avoid a company producing cake-flavoured vodka. Think about it....cake....vodka...good separately...together...not so much.

Not enjoyable straight but as I only mix vodka into russians, both black & white I can say that this vodka is a great value for the money in my area (7.99/750ml) when mixing.
