Review

I picked up Pinnacle on a whim. It was in a relatively low price range, and seemed like it was ready for a go.

The Shot

The taste is initially slightly bitter. The taste gets more bitter, and finally more bitter as I swallow. The upshot is that it doesn't burn on the way down. Pinnacle is a poor shooter.

The Mixed Drink

I mixed Pinnacle with Low-carb Monster. The shot gave way to a similar mixing experience. The bitterness came through the energy drink and gave it a spoiled taste.

Opinions

Daniel tried Pinnacle with me. He made a face that looked like he was going to vomit. He said the smell disarming. The taste was horrible; the swallow, painful, but the aftertaste was ok. As a mixer, he said he couldn't taste the vodka. He could only taste the Monster. He wouldn't mind it for the price for mixing.

In a rare event, Erin decided to shoot with me. Since she hates shooting and tries to avoid tasting vodka, she didn't have anything to say about the taste. Comparing the burn (or lack thereof) of Pinnacle to the last vodka she shot, however, she said, "Rain burned going down, and for a long time. The burn from Pinnacle was considerably less intense, and went away quickly."

I'm not very surprised with Pinnacle. At the price range, there isn't much more that can be expected quality wise. However, it's clear from my comrades' comments that Pinnacle is worth trying if you're shopping for a cheaper vodka.

I tried this. Once in my mouth, I taste sweetness mixed with some bitterness. The flavor is very noticable and almost obnoxious. Then after I swallow, the taste vanishes. No chaser needed. I followed it with Sobieski, which was more mellow in my mouth. Sobieski also has bittersweet flavors, but I find it more manageable. Once I swallow Sobieski, a bitter aftertaste lingers. I went back with another shot of Pinnacle. Again, in my mouth I find it very noticable. The flavor vaguely reminds me of a sweeter-tasting Absolut, but I don't like Absolut's flavor. Like Absolut, the aftertaste vanishes quickly for me. Not much warnth or burn to it.

I guess a good description of Pinnacle is that it's flavor is very noticable up front, that'll disappear as soon as I swallow.

I just tried Pinnacle versus Svedka with shots and Pinnacle vs Svedka vs Sobieski with Diet Cherry Dr Pepper mixes. Pardon my spelling, for I am hammered, but I find Svedka and Sobieski better mixers for this combination. I also liked Svedka more as a shot. Svedka is odorless and tasteless until the afertaste kicks in. Sobieski has some scent to it, and Pinnacle has an overpowering scent to it.

For $10-15 dollars a 750mL, my money is on Svedka or Sobieski. Smirnoff, UV, Boru, and Pinnacle just don't cut it... shots or mixed. I shall end my drunken ranting... now.

@Ben, I think you found the down side to comparing several different vodkas at once. ;) I'm with you on the Svedka / Sobieski. Svedka is about five cents cheaper than Sobieski here, which isn't enough to worry about. They're both really great vodkas, and even better vodkas for the dollar. It's going to be hard for Pinnacle or anyone else in the middle shelf price range to beat those two.

I was told the same thing at an ABC Store. He went so far as to say that it was the "spill over" from Grey Goose. However, Grey Goose is made in Cognac, France, and Pinnacle is made in Champagne, France (the opposite side of the country). The only thing they really have in common is that they are made in France. Like with Russian or American vodkas, they may have a similar thread in flavor (e.g. Russian vodkas tend to bite, and American vodkas tend to aim for flavorless), but it seems akin to calling Smirnoff an economy Russian Standard Imperia or that Relska is an economy Vodka 14. That is, it isn't a true statement.

I bought a bottle the other day! Haha, but for good reason, it was on sale for 9.99 and had a rebate form to send it for 10 bucks so it free. Only drank it during a taste test so no opinion really on it yet. Ya the guys in the liquor store prob dont know too much. I dont know if I will ever pony up the 31 bucks for the grey goose, my bar doesnt carry it, so maybe I will run into it at a friends house or party or try it in a club sometime. I can drink bottom shelf stuff and I am pretty cheap haha. And if I would love it then I would end up spending 3x more on vodka so I am still working on finding the best brand for under 20 bucks. That vladimir is 10 bucks for 1.75 and I was impressed. Its been year since I had it but at the time tasted good. But it might just be in my area or who knows. But after i get done trying some more things that your site rates highly I will have to pick up a bottle and see if it still compares.

@chuckers, the Bang for the Buck rating is what you want to pay attention to if you want to keep from blowing a ton. There are some great vodkas that hide in the middle shelf because of their price, but can easily take on the big dogs on the top shelf. I mostly come away disappointed by the expensive vodkas because plenty aren't offering more than a middle shelf vodka does.

I did 3 shots of pinacle 2 nights in a row, i get 3 servings of alcohol in me at least every day for the health benifits. Anyways it was pretty bad. Made me appreciate the titos and svedka even more. Like the bottom shelf vladamir and nikolia smoke the pinnacle and like for real they are cheap, they have cheap sticker labels the peel off soon as you get them home and they say nothing about being distilled or filtered! So I bet the are distilled one time and I doubt if they are filtered but they are pure tasting like flavorless which totally beats pinnacles bad taste. I must of found some gems on the bottom shelf, like when i first time in my life had the svedka and titos I wasnt all that impressed because they werent too much better than cheap stuff I was drinking. Now I can say there is wide difference in vodka cause it was a chore to put 3 shots of pinnacle down in a row. Yeah for me, I got a almost full botthe of pinnacle on ice and another in the cabinet still waiting to be opened! Maybe it will grow on me but doesnt look promising. If it is like grey goose I will be avoiding grey goose, at 30 some dollers a bottle grey goose better melt in ur mouth.

Goose won't melt in your mouth, but I'd pick it over Pinnacle. I guess I'm going to have to find these two bottom shelf vodkas you like so much. I don't think I've seen them at the ABC stores around here, though.

I got bout and entire bottle down of this, only bout 2 shots left. Its not very good as a shot, but a decent mixer. I still got 2 bottles of it to open so after i decide to put them down I should know this vodka pretty good.

I thought that Pinnacle was a pretty good vodka for the price. I went to the Liqour Store to buy Sobieski, but I bought a bottle of Pinnacle instead, and I'm glad that I did. A 1.75 litre was $17.78, with a mail-in rebate for $10.00 off. I'm a Bloody Mary enthusiast, so I'm not too worried about any "burn". I have a saying about my Bloody Marys (which also goes for vodka), "I have yet to find the perfect Bloody Mary, that's why I have to keep trying different ones!".

It is amazing how people are sold by creative marketing. Grey Goose sells for $46 a bottle and it's made by the same distiller in France. We did a taste test with Pinnacle vs. Grey Goose and it was 50/50 as to who guessed correctly which was Grey Goose. This just goes to show how much our subconscious mind plays into our decision making. I have been drinking Vodka for 10 years and was hooked on Svedka and now Pinnacle is the staple in our house...we have freezer with an area made for a handle. The most experienced vodka drinkers will tell you that Absolut stands for absolute crap. It's purely marketing. Ever try to drink it at room temperature? The worst of the worst taste.

I spend 19.99 on a bottle of Pinnacle while some sucker spends $46 on Grey Goose to impress his friends, meanwhile I would guess that there isn't a difference in the two. Even more astonishing is the fact that Pinnacle now has a $15 mail in rebate...so they are marketing in a different fashion....guessing that most people will forget to send it in because they aren't buying too much Grey Goose these days at $46.00.

Paul I absolutely agree. We had 8 people doing double-blind tasting, and Pinnacle completely mowed through Smirnoff, Skyy, Ketel One, and was split with Grey Goose. Nothing else was close.

Regardless whether anyone agrees with our results, the Pinnacle Challenge is a fun way to have a party that guarantees some tipsy guests. We did it as a head-to-head where the winner moves up the price ladder. And again, we were unanimous or nearly so all the way to Grey Goose, where we could tell a difference but didn't have clear preferences. Belvedere was easier to discern against Grey Goose than Pinnacle was.

a girl i work with here, tried the whipped cream vodka from Pinnacle last night, after our manager had talked up the two new flavors we just got in stock (whipped cream, and cotton candy). I was anxious to try the cotton candy, but after she came into work and said shed rather spend $15 on Crystal Palace (which doesnt even cost that much), I quickly changed my mind on buying it. Crystal Palace is HORRIBLE and for her to compare pinnacle to that, does not make it sound tempting at all.

I just bought some Pinnacle Vodka - I was curious if it would be good for the price. I disagree with many of these comments and reviews. In a bloody Mary mix or with a light flavored soda, it makes for an excellent mixing vodka! I haven't tried it as a shot by itself, but I don't ever take shots of Voka, because why the heck would anyone take a shot of vodka! Very enjoyable vodka for the price. Not the best, but well worth a try!

I see no reason to buy regular pinnacle and havent tried the cotton candy, but the whipped version with almost any fruit juice or or fruit flavored liquor makes a great shot. add a little orange juice and a tiny splash of cran, and its like an orange pushup

I enjoyed this Vodka. I did not find it bitter as previously described, but rather a bit smooth. My friends and I used this as a mixer with diet Orange Soda to make "Creamsicles" and Coke Zero. These were both very tasty and quite enjoyable. I also served the vodka on ice as shots to a group of women, they also found the sweeter taste rather enjoyable and surprising.

I've tried alot of "middle of the road" vodkas and find Pinnacle very acceptable for the investment. Recently bought the whipped cream and mixed with root beer (root beer float) and liked it, although tend to prefer conventional mixed drinks. If I'm drinking Bloodys, Pinnacle's my brand.

Not a bad mixer, especially with coke, tastes like a cream soda. I usually serve it with either coke; orange juice and triple sec; or rootbeer. Anyone who is a big drinker and doesn't want that alcohol taste with the alcohol buzz usually likes it. Only problems it is a bit too sweet.

Pinnacle is fantastic for the money. I was in a liquor store and saw that it was rated 90 points by the Beverage Testing Institue and the Pinnacle "Whipped" was rated 92 points. I decided to buy these and try it. It really won me over. I would drink this all day over all other vodkas. You cannot beat it for the price/taste.

If you like a Rootbeer Float or a orange creamsicle you will love this vodka. My husband's friends turned their noses up at first two, but after they had a taste they were drinking it up. And these are hardcore Crown & Coke drinkers. So please give this a try! You won't be disappointed!!

I tried Pinnacle Whipped vodka and shook it with fresh orange juice. The bitter, almost medicine-like flavor of the Pinnacle comes through.

I won't use this or buy it again. It reminds me too much of nasty-tasting, sweetened, liquid medicine.

If you go to the Pinnacle website's store locator, you can find places that carry it. I'd call ahead to make sure they have the whipped cream flavor. IN Alabama, it's in all the ABC stores, so it can't be that hard to find. If you're in a state that allows shipping of spirits, you can even order it online. They have a short list of places on the store locator I linked to previously.
