Corbin California Estate Grown Sweet Potato Vodka Review

Corbin California Estate Grown Sweet Potato Vodka (or Corbin Vodka for short) is unique. Instead of using a traditional potato, they were the first to go the uncharted rout of making a sweet potato vodka. It was no small feat to tame the sweet potato into a vodka worth drinking. It started with the Souza family-owned sweet potato farm in California’s San Joaquin Valley and a willingness to try something different with their sweet potato crop. A lot of experimentation, hand-selected sweet potatoes, and a craft distilling process lead to Corbin Vodka. And now, with great enthusiasm for such a finely crafted product, we get to drink it.

The Shot

Corbin vodka delivers in the taste department. The vodka is at first flavorless, but subtle hints of flavor start to filter in as the vodka sits in my mouth. Corbin is easily one of the most complex vodkas I’ve tasted. It is as close to the complex of whisky as I’ve come by in a vodka, no doubt due to the complexity of the ingredients, so it’s difficult to pin down the taste. I hate to describe it with references to other food given the VodkaBuzz mission statement, but it’s almost like dark roasted almonds. Novice vodka drinkers might have a little trouble with Corbin, but the complex flavor gives the vodka a nice characteristic. The vodka is very smooth on swallow, and doesn’t need a chaser. If you’re up for a challenge, Corbin vodka is a great choice and is very easy to drink straight.

The Mixed Drink

I mixed Corbin vodka with orange juice for a bog standard screwdriver. The results were actually quite nice. The vodka actually seemed to tone down the sweetness of the orange juice without causing any other problems with the flavor. It came out tasting like a less-sweet glass of orange juice that was very easy to drink. I expect that most fruit drink mixers would have a similar outcome, which is great if, like me, you prefer simple cocktails to the wild concoctions available nowadays.

Overall, Corbin makes for an excellent mixing vodka as well as a great vodka for drinking straight. Again, novice vodka drinkers that are looking for a neutral flavor might want to hold off on Corbin. If you are a vodka enthusiast, however, Corbin is a great vodka that will challenge your tastebuds and make you rethink how the raw materials dictate the flavor of the finished vodka. That is, Corbin vodka is an experience, not merely a drink.

I have been a license bartender for 14 years, I worked of the most upscale restaurants in downtown San Francisco, and recently stumbled upon Corbin vodka. Even if I was happy about the design of the bottle thinking it would look nice on the shelf, my initial tough was ”ok another vodka”… But I have to admit, after my first taste I realized that my guests would be amazed at the smoothness of this vodka. So I brought the remainder of the bottle to the management, they were so impressed that we replaced one of our slower performing brand with Corbin, soon to find Corbin taking the place of our more popular brand. I am so impressed of Corbin that I felt other bartender should know that to increase their sales.

This vodka is delicious. It breaks the mold of the typical flavorless vodkas that everyone “thinks” are high end. I’ve nick named Corbin the goose killer. It’s smooth on the initial sip, and soft on the pallet. No real burn, and it has a unique flavor in the background that this novice spirits reviewer simply can’t describe. After your first go-around with Corbin….I’m sure you’ll be hooked! Just gave my father a bottle for his 69th bday and CAN’T WAIT for him to try it.

I had a chance to try Corbin this last week, and all I can say is WOW! I have had so many different vodkas over the years, but something about Corbin just spoke to me. Solid flavor and taste that just screams quality all the way down to elegant bottle. If you think vodka is vodka, you certainly haven’t tried Corbin yet. Corbin will certainly be my vodka of choice going forward. I can’t wait to see what they bring to the table in the future.

In the world of vodka I have found no equal. As someone who enjoys hard liquor straight up, I have always strayed away from vodka due to its lack of flavor and complexity. I considered its purpose in this world was only for adding some kick to orange juice, etc. one taste of Corbin Vodka and I was hooked. It didn’t take long for me to polish off two bottles of this quality drink. Corbin vodka is a gem of the California Central Valley.

I have had the privilege of tasting this sweet potato vodka. Usually I absolutely cannot drink vodka in anyway unless mixed heavily. As a whisky and gin drinker, I find myself now choosing Corbin as my drink of choice.

This vodka is as mold breaking as Ciroc, but with seemingly better results. I am intrigued. Hopefully, I will get the opportunity to try it some day.

Guys I must have gotten the bottle from the bottom of the barrel. Corbin Sweet Potato Vodka tastes pasty and rank, as in disagreeable. I have tried many different Vodka labels and none of them were as weird as Corbin Sweet Potato Vodka. Nice bottle though.

Haven’t tried it but talked to a man checking out behind me at Costco who had a bottle, and his comments are similar to the ones above. He said it’s the best vodka he’s ever tasted and that he usually drinks it on the rocks. I was in a hurry and couldn’t go back and get a bottle but will my next trip. I found this site by searching online for the name since I’d forgotten by the end of the day! Glad I know how to find it now.
