I’ve crossed paths with a few spirits keeping an eye on charity. It’s always good to know that doing something I’d do anyway benefits a good cause, and for Salute American Vodka, who donates $1 per bottle sold to charities that support American veterans, their focus is especially timely in the summer months as we celebrate and remember those who have served in our armed forces. And, the vodka is one hundred percent American-made, from the ingredients to the packaging.

As of this writing, Salute American Vodka has contributed more than $60,000 to organizations that provide programs and services for veterans like VFW, Work Vessels for Vets, and Homes for Our Troops. A complete list of charities can be found on the Salute American Vodka website.

With a laudable goal, the mission of this vodka would be most successful if the vodka is worth drinking, and it does not disappoint.

Straight

Salute American Vodka absolutely delivers on taste and quality. The vodka is almost entirely flavorless. The vodka is smooth from start to finish, and easy to drink straight without a chaser. A vodka that is easy to drink straight typically bodes well for versatility in a cocktail.

Mixed

I ran Salute American Vodka through my typical array of mixers and it exceeded all my expectations.

I first mixed the vodka in a standard screwdriver. It was perfect, as expected after trying the vodka straight. It didn’t contribute anything to the cocktail apart from alcohol. In other words, it is easy to drink; maybe dangerously so.

Next I mixed a screwdriver and dropped a shot of pomegranate juice into it. In some cases the tartness of the pomegranate juice will clash with the vodka, but not Salute American Vodka. Just like in a screwdriver, Salute American Vodka mixed perfectly well with the tart pomegranate juice. This is one of my favorite cocktails, and Salute American Vodka mixed perfectly.

Finally, I mixed Salute American Vodka in an ice pick, which is vodka with sweet tea and lemon. As with the screwdriver, the vodka blends perfectly and doesn’t dilute the overall flavor.

Salute American would likely go well with any mixer because the vodka is so good straight.

Final Opinions

Salute American Vodka is a great vodka whether straight or mixed, and it excels in several types of mixers. You really can’t go wrong. Whether you’re at a party or just spending time on your porch this summer, Salute American Vodka is a great choice. It’s especially good as you remember the sacrifice of our service men and women this summer. This is a great vodka dedicated to a great cause. What’s not to like?
