Crater Lake Vodka Review

I got married on October 31st, 2008. Jeremy, my friend of many years brought me several bottles of local vodka for a wedding present. Crater Lake is one.

Crater Lake is small enough batch that it is hand numbered. Very few vodkas we’ve gotten our hands on have that distinction.

The Shot

Crater Lake Vodka is smooth in the mouth but slightly bitter. It has a bitter after taste that burns. It doesn’t quite require a chaser, but it’s nice as the after burn is a little more than I like to leave marinating in my mouth.

The Mixed Drink

Cater Lake Vodka mixed well in a dew driver. It has almost no noticeable flavor at a nearly 50% mix. At least in this application, it’s a good mixer.

Opinions

Erin said the shot isn’t bad bad. She chased it quickly, but it didn’t have a bad after taste or serious burn.

Crater Lake Vodka is a decent choice of Oregon vodka. It shines brighter as a mixer than it does a s a shooter. If you’re in to the small-batch vodka, this is definitely worth a try.

Rated 2 out of 5.

Had a chance to try both Crater Lake’s regular vodka and their Reserve. The Reserve is absolutely one of the best I’ve tried – clean, smooth with great feel. Makes outstanding vodka-tonics and martini’s. Very good strait with a little ice and a twist of lime. IMHO better than Tito’s (my regular standby), Grey Goose or Kettle One.

Crater Lake is my favorite vodka for sipping, which is the only way I drink vodka. I did not know they have a Reserve also; I will try that one too.

That’s because its 99% water! I bought a bottle yesterday, put it in freezer and just pulled it out… the whole thing is frozen solid. I got MAYBE a shot out of the bottle while the rest remained frozen. I didnt realize until I cracked the top and went to pour it and very little left the bottle. I feel dooped!!

As good of a Vodka as i can find. I agree with the later reviews with the exception of comparing it to Kettle. It is clean it is smooth and has the perfect nice heat going down.

Outstanding Vodka! Kettle One, Tito’s, Hangar One, Belvedere, etc. They’re all good, but chilled or mixed Crater Lake is right up there with the best, if not even better!

My every day vodka is Stoli, usually with soda and lime. My martini preferred vodka is currently Crater Lake, with lemon twist.
I did a side by side comparison with Stoli, Tito’s and Crater Lake. Crater Lake was the winner for my taste. This is excellent vodka, I highly recommend it.

My favorite vodka so far. I only drink vodka straight and this is the smoothest, without that burn. Better than Chopin in my opinion.

PDG – 4 1/4 out of 5. I actually like it better than GG by about 1/2 pt. I agree better mixed than shots, a little bit too much burn on shots.

Crater Lake Vodka is clean, superbly crafted vodka with just the right amount of after taste to know that you are drinking real vodka and not some flavored, created for the masses, marketing blitz concoction. No gimmicks, no silly names. It is a pure vodka that marries extremely well with just the slightest amount of vermouth. In my humble opinion as a six year bartender, it is hands down the best martini vodka around.

I’m surprised you didn’t like this vodka more Rob! It reminded me a lot of Titos with the slightly oily velvety mouth feel, but not as intense.

I still think it has a bit of a slight burn going down, but some might find that enjoyable. It still is a top shelf vodka though!

Something is clearly wrong with the above rating. This is a great mild tasting vodka that deserves at the very least a 4 out of 5. It does not have any bitter aftertaste, and even though I use it as mixer the taste is pure enough to drink on ice with just twist of lime. I rank Crater Lake just one small notch below Ketel One.

I hope we don’t upset you when we do the Kettle One review! I’ll get a bottle of Crater Lake next time I’m in OR and do a follow up.

I live about 150 miles from Bendistillery in Bend Oregon, been to the distillery and sell Crater Lake where I work. I do like this vodka very much…but their Diamond 100 Vodka is the best. It is their Crater Lake vodka filtered an amazing 100 times…this stuff is so crisp, clean and smooth I swear you could quench your thirst with it.
